Day Six - Salzburg, Austria
Our ship docked in Linz, Austria. |
We are taking a tour bus from the dock in Linz to the city of Salzburg - the birthplace of Mozart and the location used in The Sound of Music. The scenery from the tour bus on the way to Salzburg! |
My Grandma would have been so proud of me - I was the last one out of the gift shop at the rest stop! |

We walked over a bridge into the old part of town. There are locks attached to the fencing along the bridge. Our tour guide explained that there is a tradition to mark a special occassion or relationship by putting a lock on the fence and throwing the key into the river. Many of the locks have couples' names on them, and some of them are engraved with names, wedding bells, and wedding dates. The idea is that your love cannot be unlocked because the key has been thrown away. It is very sweet. |

Rubber ducky, you're the one. You make bathtime so much fun! |

One of the stops on our walking tour was a cemetary - this is the one used in The Sound of Music when the Von Trapp family was attempting to flee from the Nazis. We noticed that although the markers and the graves looked very old, they had fairly recent markers with dates within the past few years. Our tour guide explained that families lease the plot for a period of time, but if the lease lapses, and the descendents do not pay the rent, they dig up the body and re-sell the gravesite. The markers are beautiful!|

I even saw the ghost of Mozart! Very spooky!! |

Our last stop was at the Sacher Hotel Cafe for some of the famous Sacher Torte.|
